Considering the amount of limestone pavement on Great Asby Scar it is perhaps surprising that the area immediately surrounding the trig point is grassy. The view is very fine indeed with a grand prospect south of the Howgill Fells whilst to the north the panorama includes the giants of the North Pennines including Cross Fell and the two Dun Fells. On a clear day the view extends west to the Lake District with the outline of Blencathra easily identifiable.
