The reservoirs of the Washburn valley are perfect for relatively short family walks. When our daughter was younger we used to do the circuit of neighbouring Swinsty Reservoir at least once a year. On this occasion we managed to persuade her to do the slightly longer circuit of Fewston Reservoir for a change.
The car park, just uphill from the southern end of the dam, serves both Fewston and Swinsty Reservoirs so can get very busy. Fortunately, we managed to find one of the last parking spaces available.
The walk itself is really very straightforward and doesn’t need much description or commentary. Crossing over the road from the car park we took the path heading north through the trees and continued on the path in a clockwise direction.
As ever it was a pleasant walk and Rhiannon didn’t moan much, in fact, as is usually the case when she gets going she actually rather enjoyed it. With it being early November the autumn colours were also rather lovely. Indeed autumn is my favourite time of the year to visit any of the Washburn’s reservoirs.
