Aysgarth Falls

Aysgarth Falls

Aysgarth Falls is the name given to a series of waterfalls stretching for over half a mile on the River Ure, downstream of the village of Aysgarth. They are usually divided up into the High, Middle and Lower falls with each one made up of a succession of limestone steps.

Aysgarth Falls have long been one of the most popular tourist attractions in Wensleydale and became even better known in 1991 when the upper and middle falls were featured in the film ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.’ Although none of the falls are particularly high they are undoubtedly impressive, especially after a spell of heavy rain.

Their popularity is no doubt partly due to their ease of access with the upper falls well seen from Yore Bridge and the middle and lower falls also easy to reach thanks to a lovely path through Freeholders’ Wood.
