East Gill Force is a waterfall situated at the foot of East Gill near the village of Keld in Swaledale and is often mistaken for nearby Catrake Force.
Together with Catrake Force there are three waterfalls near Keld (the other two being Wain Wath Force and Kisdon Force) that are identified on the OS Explorer map with a blue star identifying them as a tourist feature. Ironically the waterfall that is probably seen by most people who visit Keld is East Gill Force.
East Gill Force is situated immediately below East Gill Bridge and alongside the Pennine Way just after it has crossed the River Swale and begins to climb towards East Stonesdale. It is a fine waterfall and a popular spot with walkers. Just below the main waterfall there is a second, smaller waterfall, as the gill meets the Swale which is also worth checking out.
